Day 171: Syria and Dawood Basha
Good evening, Raffies!
Tonight we are going to Syria and we are going to enjoy a very simple, yet delicious dish: Dawood Basha.
Once again, we are going to have meatballs in this week. These herbed meatballs are served in a lovely tomato sauce and accompanied with rice.
The recipe is as easy as you might think:
300 g ground lamb
1 onion, chopped
5 fresh tomatoes, peeled and diced or 1-2 cans of tomatoes
1 c freshly chopped parsley
2 tbsp ghee
1 tsp Baharat
salt
pepper
Mix the meat with 1 handful of parsley, salt, pepper and 1/2 tsp Baharat. Form small balls and fry them until brown on all sides in the ghee. The meatballs should not be completely cooked.
Set aside the meatballs and fry the onion in the juice of the meatballs. Add the tomatoes and adjust the salt. Cook on a medium fire until smooth. Add the remaining Baharat and pepper. Add the meatballs and cook for about 30 minutes on a low fire.
About 5 minutes before serving, add the remaining parsley.
Serve with rice and enjoy!
To be honest, I am a big fan of Middle Eastern cuisine, which means I am biased. I loved it! We accompanied it with some buttered rice with pine nuts and raisins and it was amazing!
Love, Raffi
