Day 165: Sri Lanka and Devilled Tofu

Good evening, Raffies!

Tonight we are going to Sri Lanka for some devilled tofu!
Sri Lankan cuisine resembles Indian cuisine. A meal consists usually of steamed rice with some curry. The South Indian and Indonesian influences are very strong. In fact, spices and spicy dishes are a fundamental part of every dish.

The recipe is really easy to make:

1 package firm tofu
1 onion, chopped
1 tomato, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 clove of garlic, crushed
1 cm fresh ginger, minced
1 chillie, crushed
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp tomato sauce
oil for frying
chili flakes
salt
turmeric powder

Start by chopping the tofu in bite-sized cubes. Season with salt and turmeric powder and leave to marinate for about 5 minutes.
In a frying pan or wok, heat the oil and fry the tofu until brown. Set aside. Now fry the onion until soft. Add the ginger and garlic. Then add the pepper and stir. Add the chillie and the chili flakes. Stir and pour in the soy sauce. Add the tomato and the tomato sauce. Mix well and serve. Garnish with some chili flakes and serve with rice. Enjoy!

Instead of the green pepper that was out at the store, I used an orange one. But the dish was incredible and the tofu was simply great.

Love,

Raffi
