Day 107: Maldives and Mas Huni

Good evening, Raffies!

Today we are having breakfast for dinner! We are going to the Maldives and enjoying some traditional breakfast, that you can often find as a snack, too: Mas Huni.

The name explains what it is: Mas = fish and Huni = coconut.
The recipe is incredibly easy:

2 cans of tuna
1 c freshly grated coconut
1 red onion, chopped or thinly sliced
1 chili, chopped
1 lime, zest and juice
salt
coriander to garnish and to mix in (optional)

If you do not have fresh coconuts laying around - like me-, you can use desiccated coconut and coconut milk. In this case, you mix them together and let the paste rest for about 15 minutes (it has to have a dense consistency).
In a bowl mix the tuna and the coconut. Add salt, chili and onions and mix well. Add a handful of coriander and serve with warm roti.

I must say that upon seeing the dish I was going to make, I was not impressed. To be honest, it looked quite unappealing. It reminded of cat food. But since I like coconut and tuna, I thought it might be quite nice. It was. It was fresh and delicious. I placed some on a leaf of salad and the combo was great!

Love,

Raffi
