Day 76: Hungarian Lángos
Good evening, Raffies!
Today we are slightly later than usual, since the preparation took a bit longer than expected.
We are going to Hungary and trying out a very common Hungarian street food: Lángos!
This is a deep fried bread with sour cream, cheese or garlic on top.
The name comes from the Hungarian word "láng", which means "flame". In hungary you can buy these snacks anywhere around the country. I must say that freshly fried with cheese and garlic makes them irresistible!
The trick is to eat it hot. It is amazing! It was definitely worth waiting so long!
The recipe is really easy:
300 g flour
250 ml water
7 g dried yeast
1/2 tsp salt
Oil to fry
Start by melting the salt in the water. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and the yeast. Add the water to the flour and work the dough well with a wooden spoon or with your hands. If the dough is too sticky, you can add some flour. Make a ball out of the smooth dough and let it rest by covering it with a cloth for around 45 minutes.
Once the time has passed, roll it out on a floured surface and cut out round shapes with a glass (approximately 10 cm diametre). Stretch the dough further with your fingers so that it is thin in the middle and thicker outside. Let it rest for another 30 minutes.
Now fry the circles in oil, one after the other until golden brown. Serve immediately by topping it with sour cream, cheese or garlic.
Love, Raffi
